i saw you make one (1) post about the next step so i’m going to assume you watched all the seasons… is michelle x emily canon?

your assumption was correct i did watch everything 🤣🤣 season 8 when😭?? NOW HOW DO I GO ABOUT ANSWERING THIS QUESTION-- ok so

short answer: no

loooong answer: it’s one of those situations where they don’t explicitly get together in the text or anything, but they are definitely each other’s “other half” if you will, that is to say their characters basically revolve around each other and they always somehow end up “together” in the end

i think the creators are definitely aware of the fact that michemily is a popular pairing, they even kind of play with the idea in this one scene where michelle sends emily a present and its played like emily has a “secret admirer”, but i don’t really think they will ever go explicit with their relationship, half because idk how willing they are to make a move like that with basically the 2 most important characters in the show, and half because i also kind of think that the interpretation that they are literally just best friends with a VERY complicated relationship is also a valid one, in the text of the show they are basically seen as platonic soulmates and that’s kinda really cute imo

you didn’t specify if you wanted spoilers or not so that’s basically how i would put it without literally stating what happens, i’ll go more into specifics under the cut, but before that i think i would be remiss not to mention that in season 7 the next step does actually get a canon gay relationship with 2 new characters!! this is their sort of “get together” scene, but they did actually have a whole mini arc before this where they are both explicitly crushing on each other and honestly it was really cool and wholesome, i’m excited to see how these 2 further develop in season 8 (whenever that hapens😭)

their developements in the later seasons basically go like this - in season 5 they become co-studio heads and have an arc where they basically revert back to their old season 1 selves and start competing and being rivals again, then after a lot of drama they finally come together in the end (as always) and then pretty much spend all of season 6 being good studio heads together, here’s a really great scene where they dance together when the studio holds a prom

then at the end of s6/beginning of s7, michelle decides to become a professional dancer and leaves emily to now run the studio with the new owner (this literally plays out like a bad breakup turned amicable in the end😂), then later in the season, michelle retuns after becoming a successful dancer and announces she’s going on tour and wants emily to come with her, emily spends some time thinking it over, then at the end of the season decides she will join michelle- it’s their happy end together!!! (well, we still have yet to see if season 8 has anything left in store for them or if they’re both actually leaving the show for realsies this time🤣)
